Tottenham, Wolves leading chase to hand highly-rated keeper reprieve

Tottenham and Wolves are reportedly leading the chase to bring a relegated goalkeeper back to the Premier League this summer.

Aaron Ramsdale, who has been named on England’s stand-by list for the Euros, was relegated with Sheffield United last season. However, a number of clubs, including Spurs and Wolves, are looking to hand the stopper a reprieve and bring him back to the top flight.

The Blades are facing battle to keep their top stars, with the likes of Ramsdale and Sander Berge set to leave. Indeed, Arsenal and Liverpool have already shown an interest in the latter.

As for Ramsdale, Tottenham view the 23-year-old as a long-term replacement for Hugo Lloris. The club skipper, 34, is entering the final year of his contract and could leave for nothing next summer.

Lloris has been strongly tipped to join his old boss Mauricio Pochettino at PSG, although that is unlikely to happen this year.

Spurs also have the small matter of appointing a new boss to attend to. To that end, they are unlikely to let their captain leave while they are in limbo.

Pochettino continues to be linked with a return to north London, although PSG are refusing to let him leave. Former Roma boss Paulo Fonseca has also been in talks over a deal this week.

Wolves worried about Patricio exit

As for Wolves, they also have their eyes of Ramsdale, with Rui Patricio also out of contract in 2022.

Jose Mourinho’s Roma have the eyes on the Portugal star, with Wolves lining up Ramsdale as a contingency plan.

Ramsdale shone at Bramall Lane despite a woeful campaign for the Blades, which saw them finish bottom of the table.

That was in stark contrast to their first season back in the top light, when they finished ninth.

Ramsdale is currently valued at around £10million by transfermarkt. However, Sheffield United will be hoping a bidding war begins to raise that price.
