Transfer gossip: Ten Hag pushing Man Utd to seal stunning playmaker raid; Liverpool line up perfect Alexander-Arnold understudy

Erik ten Hag is already making his presence felt at Old Trafford by ordering the club to make a move for soon-to-be free agent striker Paulo Dybala, while Sunday’s Paper Talk claims Liverpool are ready to swoop for Trent Alexander-Arnold’s perfect understudy.

TEN HAG ORDERS UNITED MOVE FOR JUVE PLAYMAKER

The over-reliance on Cristiano Ronaldo this season has reportedly seen incoming Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag instruct Old Trafford transfer chiefs to strike a transfer for Paulo Dybala.

Ronaldo was at his devastating best again on Saturday as his hat-trick helped a sluggish United beat struggling Norwich 3-2 at Old Trafford.

The victory keeps up the Red Devils’ hopes of finishing in the top four. However, it’s clear that United need better players around Ronaldo – if he stays – to compete with the likes of Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea next term.

To that end, a report from Corriere dello Sport claims that the agent of Dybala has already had a meeting with Manchester United in order to send his client to Old Trafford.

The report adds that with Ten Hag’s deal imminent, the Dutchman wants the Juventus man on board in the summer.

Dybala looks set to boost his current £111,000-a-week when he quits Turin, with the player soon available for free.

Tottenham are also rumoured to be chasing the Argentine. However, United’s greater wealth puts them in a stronger position to strike a deal.

Dybala excelled with Ronaldo before

Dybala also played alongside Ronaldo during Juve’s 2019-20 title-winning campaign and was crowned Serie A Player of the Season ahead of the Portuguese.

This season has seen the 28-year notch 13 goals and add six assists for Juventus in 26 starts.

His potential arrival could cause problems, however. Dybala is well suited to the role that Bruno Fernandes and Paul Pogba play.

But while Pogba is being tipped to leave Old Trafford this summer, Fernandes only recently penned a bumper new contract with the club.

So if Dybala does indeed move to Manchester, it will be interesting to see how Ten Hag fits him in.

LIVERPOOL TURN TO SCOTLAND FOR TAA BACK-UP

Liverpool are reportedly chasing Aberdeen’s brilliant young right-back Calvin Ramsay to groom him as cover for Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Reds spies are said to be raving about the defender, who is in the Alexander-Arnold. To that end, they are looking to strike a deal for the 18-year-old, as reported in the Daily Mail.

Ramsay has been attracting interest since his breakthrough at Pittodrie. And the report adds Liverpool view him as a player to sign and bring through for the first team.

Alexander-Arnold currently has a firm grip of the right-back jersey. However, the hope is that within a couple of years, Liverpool will have strong competition for the position.

The projected arrival of Ramsay almost certainly means the end of Neco Williams’ Anfield career.

The Wales star has impressed on loan at Fulham and is expected to earn a permanent move this summer.

The Cottagers are on the brink of promotion and are expected to pay around £12million for the player.

PALACE, TOTTENHAM BATTLE FOR £15M POSH STAR

Crystal Palace boss Patrick Vieira is already planning for the next stage of the rebuild of his squad and will battle it out with Tottenham for Ronnie Edwards, Peterborough’s £15million-rated England Under-19 defender.

Palace have won many plaudits this season for their emerging talents such as young England internationals Marc Guehi, Conor Gallagher and Tyrick Mitchell.

Centre-back Edwards, 19 last month, has been a regular in the Championship. He also impressed against Manchester City in the FA Cup.

Spurs are also taking note of Edwards. However, The Sun reports Palace hope Vieira’s record of using young players gives them an advantage.

Indeed, Palace see Edwards as a big part of their future at the back with Guehi and Joachim Andersen.
