Transfer hold up has knock on effect for man Arsenal want to spearhead challenge
Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka’s proposed transfer to Roma has hit a roadblock leaving Mikel Arteta’s pursuit of Tammy Abraham stalling, claims a report.
Xhaka has been targeted by Roma boss Jose Mourinho, with a deal expected to go through after Euro 2020.
However, the transfer has hit the skids with no agreement on the fee between the two clubs.
The Gunners want €20m for Xhaka, but Roma have so far failed to match that fee. It has left the deal hanging by a thread.
Xhaka, 28, is desperate to join the Serie A outfit, but the Gunners are standing firm on their transfer stance.
The midfielder is reportedly prepared to give up his Arsenal bonuses if it means securing a move to Roma.
Xhaka recently told Look: “Arsenal know what I want to do… it is very beautiful here (in Rome).”
Il Tempo, via TMW, have claimed that “everything has stopped” because Roma haven’t matched Arsenal’s valuation.
Personal terms are understood to have been agreed with the Eternal City club offering Xhaka a four-year contract.
Roma though are nowhere close to an offer of €20m for the Switzerland international.

Abraham interest
And Roma’s approach of dragging their feet is having a knock on effect regarding Arteta’s move for Abraham.
The Chelsea forward, who is under contract until 2023, has emerged as a player on Arteta’s wanted list, according to The Sun.
A loan move with an obligation to buy has been suggested for the 23-year-old from Camberwell.
Chelsea are seeking a fee of around £40m for the striker, but Arsenal, as per football.london are waiting on the sales of Xhaka and Alexandre Lacezette to bankroll the deal.
Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel has admitted that some of his squad “want to maybe leave”.
The German is in unchartered territory this season. With such a large squad at Stamford Bridge Tuchel has been unable to get the minutes into players that he needs.
“Some of them want to stay in their loan clubs, some of them have not that possibility,” Tuchel told Chelsea’s website.
“Some of them have done two or three pre-seasons here already. And some of them want to look absolutely for the chance to stay, some of them want to maybe leave. They’re humans, they’re not robots and that’s why we have to accept it’s not the easiest situation also for them.”
Abraham, who played just 17 minutes of football under Tuchel, is also looking for a way out.
