Transformative Frenkie de Jong transfer would trigger departure of brilliant Chelsea star

Chelsea’s interest in Barcelona playmaker Frenkie de Jong could see one Blues star given permission to leave Stamford Bridge in the summer, claims a report.

Thomas Tuchel’s men have been on the trail of De Jong for several months. His time at the Camp Nou has not run as smooth this season with the Dutch star struggling for form. Xavi’s arrival has also failed to lift the levels of the 24-year-old, despite the new coach backing the player publicly.

The emergence of Gavi, Pedri and Nico Gonzalez has led to suggestions that De Jong could be sold. He was a €75m recruit from Ajax in July 2019 and he was an instant hit the following season.

De Jong did the net the winner against Alaves earlier this week, which may have given his confidence a lift. And afterwards he admitted he can get better.

“I can improve a lot, but my game is not a disaster either. It’s a bit normal, I can improve a lot,” said De Jong.

However, now the likes of Chelsea, Juventus and Bayern Munich are chasing him after the wheels came off in Catalonia.

Chelsea, as per Marca, reportedly made a £33m bid for the player earlier this month.

But Chelsea’s bid was rejected by the LaLiga giants with Barcelona chasing a fee of around £50m.

Since then Marca have claimed that Bayern Munich have also “been in contact” with De Jong’s agents over a move to Germany.

The Bavarian club apparently want to sign De Jong in this transfer window, but relations between the two clubs are not great.

Bayern tried to intervene over Pedri’s contract renewal and they also tried to move sign Sergino Dest.

De Jong to replace Jorginho?

That may mean that negotiations will prove too complex to get the deal done by next week, but Bayern will wait. Just as Chelsea will too.

Juventus, while having designs on De Jong themselves, believe that Chelsea’s move for the player will allow them to get their hands on Jorginho.

The Chelsea star has been linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge ever since Maurizio Sarri left town.

The Gazzetta dello Sport believe that this summer could be the right time for the 30-year-old to return to Serie A. Jorginho has been with the Blues since arriving from Napoli in 2018.

He has won the Super Cup, Europa League and Champions League with Chelsea, while last summer he won the Euro’s with Italy. However, the Serie A title has eluded him and with his contract up in 2023 the summer might be the right time for him to move on.
