Trent Alexander-Arnold reveals Jurgen Klopp’s half-time message to Liverpool squad

Trent Alexander-Arnold has revealed the message that Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp delivered to his players at half-time against Manchester City on Sunday.

Klopp’s men made a blistering start to the second half and scored through Sadio Mane within a minute of the restart. City had taken the lead through Kevin de Bruyne, but Diogo Jota equalised soon after. Gabriel Jesus put City ahead 10 minutes before half-time only Mane to level as the game ended 2-2.

City had started the better of the two sides and were deservedly ahead at the break. Liverpool though were more of a threat in the second half, although City thought they had won the game through Raheem Sterling only to see his goal chalked off for offside.

Klopp though can take great credit for rousing his troops at half-time. And Alexander-Arnold who was an attacking threat for the visitors has revealed what the German coach’s message was after the first stanza.

Alexander-Arnold said: “We want to win every game we’re in, no matter the opposition we come up against. It says a lot about us that we’ve got that slight disappointment not to come here and win.

“It was very important for us not to lose this game, we’re still in a decent position but it is in their hands. A few years ago, this is what happened.

“They went on a really good run and we weren’t able to capitalise on that. Hopefully, this time around, they will drop a few points for us.

“The first half in general wasn’t ourselves. We didn’t play the football we wanted to and the time we did play the football, we scored our goals.

“That was one of the messages the manager said to us at half-time: Play our football. We came out with a point to prove and scored the early goal, but couldn’t create too many chances after that.

“They had the better chances. There is not really a disappointment of not putting our chances away, it is the lack of chances we created. We know they had weaknesses and, when we did play well, we used the weaknesses they have got.

Alexander-Arnold hoping for City slip up

“People might say we were hanging on at the end, but that’s part of the game.”

Liverpool remain a point behind City with seven games remaining, but City’s run-in looks markedly easier than their rivals’.

Klopp’s men have a derby game against Everton, as well as home games with Man Utd and Spurs.

Man City’s toughest task on paper looks to be an away date at West Ham.

Asked who the title race will pan out, Alexander-Arnold added: “There’s seven games. Every week there is a surprising result in the Premier League. We’re just hoping we are not on the end of one and City are.

“It is seven games, a lot can happen. Who knows what will happen, hopefully we make it exciting. It might go down to the last day again.”
