Watford make further squad improvements as Ligue 1 star poised to join ranks
Watford are closing in on their fourth January signing as Nigeria winger Samuel Kalu is set to join from Bordeaux, per a report.
The Hornets are struggling upon their return to the Premier League this season. Despite wins against the likes of Manchester United and Aston Villa, they sit just above the relegation places.
While in a precarious position, boss Claudio Ranieri feels his side are too good to be relegated.
However, the need for reinforcements is clear, in order to sustain their Premier League position. Furthermore, Ranieri has made a few January signings already.
The Hornets are also on the cusp of completing another deal, for Bordeaux winger Kalu, per The Athletic.
Watford look to be getting a decent player, who has made 17 appearances for Nigeria.
What’s more, Kalu was Bordeaux’s joint second-top scorer last season with four goals. Contributing in the final third will be a quality that Watford are excited by.
The deal is reported to be in the region of £2.5-£3.5million, with Watford being savvy with their dealings so far.
Watford have reportedly been tracking Kalu for years, and will be happy that they have landed him now.
Furthermore, the Nigerian is sure to feature upon his arrival at Watford. Fellow January signings Samir, Hassane Kamara and Edo Kayembe were all rewarded with starts against Newcastle United, clearly Ranieri wants to put his signings to good use.
Kalu to join fresh face Samir
Kalu will become Watford’s fourth signing in the January window. Samir joined from Udinese at the beginning of the month, and was immediately blooded against Newcastle.
The Hornets are signing players that will have an impact on the squad.
What’s more, they are coming at a crucial time, as Watford will be desperate to drag themselves away from the relegation places.
The Hornets’ next game is against Norwich City, and a win would put some space between the two. As such, Ranieri will be hoping his new signings can help that happen.
