Rumours in Italy persist that Wolves are looking to sign Atalanta goalkeeper Pierluigi Gollini as a replacement for the departed Rui Patricio.
Patricio has now joined Jose Mourinho at Roma after three seasons in the West Midlands. The Portugal international missed just two Premier League games in his Molineux spell and thoughts have turned to his successor. Tottenham were mentioned as possible suitors for Gollini last summer as the Serie A outfit demanded €25m – €30m.
Nothing materialised but the north Londoners seem keen once again. They have been linked, with Hugo Lloris entering the final year of his contract.
But they are not the only Premier League club linked. Everton’s name has been mentioned in connection with the 26-year-old shot-stopper.
However, it is open to debate how much action he would see at Goodison Park, with England ace Jordan Pickford number one. That has potentially left the way open for Wolves to pounce, with L’Eco di Bergamo declaring their interest on Tuesday.
And Calcio Mercato (via Sport Witness) have now weighed in on the story. The outlet suggests the Black Country outfit are interested although there are no details of any bid.
The Bologna-born ace is no stranger to English football. He spent a couple of years in the Manchester United youth setup between 2012 and 2014.
And he was signed by Aston Villa in July 2016, making 20 Championship appearances for the Villans. However, the man with one Italy cap was loaned to Atalanta in January 2017.
He had spent just five month at Villa Park before penning an 18-month loan deal with the Italians. That became permanent in the summer of 2018 and his reputation has grown in Serie A.
He has made 78 league appearances across the past three campaigns while playing 10 times in the Champions League.
No change in expected fee for Gollini
It is not known if Spurs or Everton are set to make an offer for the player. But, it appears as though any interested party will need to fork out between €25m and €30m.
There have also been suggestions that Atalanta need to raise funds for their own summer recruitment. They have been linked with Sassuolo midfielder Jeremie Boga and need a cash injection to get that deal done.
And, with keeper Juan Musso joining La Dea from Udinese, Gollini’s days at Gewiss Stadium may be numbered.
