Wolves ready €25m bid for LaLiga forward but may need Mendes magic

Wolves are set to launch a €25m bid for a LaLiga forward but they will have work to do in the negotiations, according to one journalist.

The Midlands club kicked off their Premier League campaign with a narrow defeat to Leicester at the weekend. A Jamie Vardy strike was all that separated the two sides in Bruno Lage’s first competitive match in charge. But the game did provide some positive news for the club’s fans.

It saw the return to top flight action of striker Raul Jimenez, who had been absent since November 2020.

The Mexican suffered a fractured skull which kept him out for a number of months. After suffering such a concerning injury, it was great to see him back.

When he was out of the Wolves side, they seriously struggled in front of goal.

And although he has now returned, they are yet to strengthen their attack much in the summer transfer window.

All four of Lage’s permanent signings have been defensive acquisitions. The only offensive addition has been Barcelona winger Trincao, who has joined on a season-long loan.

But that might soon change. According to El Chiringuito journalist Alex Silvestre, Wolves could be set to make a move for Valencia’s Goncalo Guedes.

They have been linked with the 24-year-old for a while. Their interest dates back a number of months.

The €25m bid that Silvestre expects to be made is said to be below the Spanish side’s valuation of their player.

However, they are reportedly in quite serious need of funds. And as Guedes has just two years left on his contract, they may cash in this summer.

The Portuguese winger, who has played right across the frontline in his career, is represented by super agent Jorge Mendes.

Mendes has close ties to both clubs, so Wolves may have to rely on him to negotiate a deal that pleases all parties.

Wolves making movements in market

Meanwhile, reports in Portugal claim Wolves could be set to swoop for Porto midfielder Sergio Oliveira before the transfer window closes.

The 29-year-old began his career with Porto but failed to make an appearance. He spent time on loan with various clubs and one season playing for Porto B before joining Pacos Ferreira in 2013.

He saw plenty of action with Os Castores, making 69 appearances across two seasons.

And that prompted Porto to buy him back in 2015. However, he was loaned to Ligue 1 club Nantes after failing to make much of an impact.

Oliveira had been just an occasional goal scorer up until 2020-21 but found the net 20 times in all competitions last season. Wolves chief Lage knows all about his compatriot, having witnessed his prowess at close quarters…
