Liverpool given blunt answer by exciting winger after trying to steal a march on rivals

Federico Chiesa has already declined the opportunity to join Liverpool FC before, it has been revealed by an Italian transfer expert.

Chiesa has become a precious commodity in the transfer market again in recent months. The winger impressed for Italy as they won Euro 2020 this summer. Consequently, he has been tipped to secure a move to the Premier League.

However, that would not be easy, because he is just over halfway through a two-year loan from Fiorentina to Juventus. The Old Lady have an obligation to make the transfer permanent at the end of the season.

While they could do so and then turn a big profit with an immediate sale, they have no such plans. Chiesa is a major part of their future and they will be trying to ward off the likes of Chelsea and Liverpool, who are admirers.

Both Premier League sides could do with an injection of excitement into their attacks, despite having plenty of big names already available to them.

Chelsea have not really got what they expected from 2020 signings Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech. Furthermore, Christian Pulisic seems to be stagnating somewhat. Chiesa could give them more guarantees in similar territory.

As for Liverpool, their front three of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane will all be 30 by next season.

Therefore, they could consider a younger alternative like Chiesa, who turns 24 this month, to mimic the impact that Diogo Jota had after arriving last summer.

However, Juventus are putting up obstacles to prevent such a scenario. What’s more, it has now come to light that Chiesa has already said no to Liverpool before.

Sky Sport‘s Gianluca Di Marzio revealed: “One of the first teams that had asked Fiorentina for Chiesa was Liverpool. But Chiesa said: ‘No, I don’t want to go to the Premier League because I want to stay in Italy’.

“He had already promised himself to Juve for a while. Liverpool always arrive early for certain players. They had already arrived for Chiesa, but both Federico and his father [ex-Italy international Enrico Chiesa] said no to the Premier League at that moment.

“But he would be a player with the ideal characteristics for the Premier League.”

Federico Chiesa criticises speculation

With that in mind, Chiesa continues to be linked with a future move to England.

However, he recently hit out at “pointless gossip” about him being at odds with Juve coach Max Allegri.

Speaking after scoring against Chelsea in the Champions League, Chiesa said to Amazon Prime Italia: “I’ve never had a problem with the coach. This was just created by the media. I do whatever he asks. There’s no issue here.

“I know you lot like it when Juve start the season badly, so you can start with pointless gossip. But we are all behind the coach and want to bring Juve back to the years of dominating the Scudetto race.”

Chiesa has made six appearances this season so far, scoring twice. In his debut year with Juventus, he managed 15 goals and 11 assists from 46 games in all competitions.
