Tottenham, Man Utd attacking target has ‘important’ Prem observers ahead of first English experience

Roma are considering the sale of recent hat-trick hero Nicolo Zaniolo and he has at least one suitor in the Premier League, a report has claimed.

Zaniolo scored three times for Roma against Bodo/Glimt on Thursday to set up a Europa Conference League semi-final with Leicester City. After missing their meeting with Manchester United last season when he was injured, it means he will be playing in England for the first time.

But there would be many more opportunities to do so if he joins a Premier League club. Despite signs of a return to form, rumours continue to linger for the Italian starlet.

Capable of playing as an attacking midfielder, right winger or even a support striker, Zaniolo has plenty of traits that appeal to many clubs. But he is currently at a contract stalemate with his present employers.

Zaniolo’s deal is due to run until 2024 and he will want a pay-rise to extend it. Roma are working out whether it would be worth that investment.

Alternatively, as Corriere Dello Sport affirm, they could cash in on him for a major profit. They only spent €4.5m to take him from Inter Milan in 2018. But his value has grown substantially since.

Now, the Rome-based newspaper claims they could listen to offers in the region of €60m (just under £50m) for the 22-year-old.

Where those offers may come from is not entirely clear. But there are some ideas. The report claims he has two suitors in Italy, one of which is AC Milan.

The other is not named. However, there have been frequent links with Juventus in the past for Zaniolo. Therefore, it would not be too surprising if they are the other.

Zaniolo has previous Premier League links

In addition, Corriere Dello Sport claim there are important clubs keeping track of him from the Premier League.

Again, none are identified. But there could be some clues from previous reports. Zaniolo has been linked with the likes of Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United, as well as Newcastle and Liverpool.

Only time will tell which of them may act if Zaniolo does not agree to a renewal. They may be powerless, though, if an upcoming meeting between the midfielder and Roma general manager Tiago Pinto leads to a different conclusion.

Zaniolo currently earns around €2.2m per season (around £35,000 per week). But he wants the salary of a top player before signing any new deal.

Whether he would be putting pen to paper on a new contract with Roma, or one with a new employer – potentially in the Premier League – will become clearer towards the summer.
