Trademark reaction from Salah as he responds to Kane over Golden Boot award

Mohamed Salah congratulated Harry Kane after accepting defeat to his Premier League colleague in the race for the Golden Boot.

Tottenham striker Kane snatched the prize on Sunday’s final day, his goal taking him to 23 for the campaign. His goal also proved crucial in helping Spurs defeat Leicester to ensure their seventh-placed European finish. Salah also started the day on 22 strikes, but several missed chances meant he stayed there.

Nevertheless, the Liverpool winger played a starring role as his side secured a top-four finish; he combined to great effect with Sadio Mane and assisted the Senegalese for his second goal.

Reacting to his award on Twitter, Kane – who also finished the season with the most assists (14) – wrote: “Delighted to win these awards!

“Not possible without the team and staff throughout the season.”

In response, Salah – who has earned a reputation as a humble character – wrote: “Very well deserved! Congratulations!”

Overall, Kane finished with 33 goals and 17 assists and will subsequently head into England’s Euro 2020 campaign with strong momentum.

Salah also had a strong season, notching 31 goals for his campaign. In doing so, he ended up as Liverpool’s top scorer for the fourth season running.

What’s more, he has scored the most goals of any player every season since his arrival in 2017.

As for their team’s respective finishes, though, Liverpool will be much the happier team.

The Reds sat eighth with 10 games to go after a woeful run of form. However, eight wins and two draws from their final 10 games eventually saw them sit third after 38 matches.

Spurs may have finished in the Europa Conference League spot, but interim boss Ryan Mason admitted that it is not where his team wants to be, even if he will not lead them into the competition.

New manager enters Tottenham fray

Indeed, Mason will be replaced before the start of next season, but it still remains unclear who will take his place.

Julian Nagelsmann and Erik ten Hag have become unavailable, while Brendan Rodgers has vowed to stay at Leicester.

As such, a new name has entered the fray.
