Hojbjerg warns Conte has to ask ‘bigger question’ of Tottenham as vital missing ingredient named
Tottenham’s recent struggles are about more than just their inconsistent form according to Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, who insisted his side are not giving up.
Spurs came into the season looking forward to another new chapter under manager Nuno Espirito Santo. Following the sacking of Jose Mourinho, Tottenham sought a change of approach.
However, Nuno got the sack too and so Antonio Conte – a summer target – finally got his chance. However, he too has faced the same problems as his predecessors.
Tottenham have enjoyed some decent results under the Italian, but inconsistency has proved the major problem. Indeed, they beat Manchester City 3-2 away and thrashed Leeds 4-0. In between, though, they lost to Burnley and Middlesbrough.
Speaking to the Daily Mail, Denmark international midfielder Hojbjerg insisted the results do not tell the full Tottenham story.
“If you beat City away you should follow that up by not losing the game after. And we did,” Hojbjerg said.
“That’s why this question is, rightly so, asked but it’s a bit difficult to explain short and sharp, maybe it’s a bigger question?
“But it’s something we are definitely aware of and working on and not happy with of course, at all.”

Spurs face Everton on Monday evening before playing Manchester United away. Conte’s men are pushing for a top-four Premier League finish, with United a direct rival.
Everton, meanwhile, are fighting at the wrong end of the table. As a result, Hojbjerg insisted that Monday’s clash in north London will prove a “great challenge” against a team with “fresh ideas” under Frank Lampard.
As for where Tottenham can improve, Hojbjerg called for stability.
The 26-year-old said: “I can give you a big explanation or a big sing along but as long as the chances are there it’s something that you have to work to achieve.
“For me it’s difficult to put words into it, it’s better that the team show it by action.
“But the chances are there which means that the ambition is there. We are still trying our best for a top four finish and as long as it’s possible, we have the ambition to do it. We are giving our best to achieve our targets and we have to fight for this.”
Hojbjerg insistent Tottenham must improve
Spurs currently sit seventh in the Premier League with three games in hand on West Ham in sixth and Manchester United in fifth.
Arsenal, in fourth, also have three games in hand, with the two north London rivals yet to play each other at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
The fact that Tottenham exited the FA Cup to Middlesbrough ended their trophy hopes for another season.
However, they can now focus on their top-four charge, with United up next after Everton in a crunch week.
