Euro Paper Talk: Man Utd bid £50m to get ball rolling on massive signing; West Ham quoted £25m for ex-Liverpool man
Manchester United make their first bid for a top midfield target, while West Ham must pay £25million for a former Liverpool striker – both in all the latest Euro Paper Talk.
MAN UTD MAKE MILINKOVIC-SAVIC BID
Manchester United have made an initial bid worth £50million for Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, according to a report.
The Red Devils are facing a defining few months as they look to appoint a new manager and guide them through their first transfer window in charge. Interim manager Ralf Rangnick has laid bare the problems the current squad is facing.
He pointed out the breadth of technical talent at Old Trafford. However, the German tactician insisted that the squad is not physical enough and needs a rebuild.
As for who Man Utd could target, they reportedly want a new centre-back, a midfielder and a striker.
Lazio’s Serbia international Milinkovic-Savic has emerged as a firm midfield target. And according to La Repubblica, United have put a bid of €60million in for the 27-year-old.
Previous reports hinted at a potential discount from Lazio president Claudio Lotito, bringing the fee down to United’s initial bid.
However, the latest claim insists that Lotito is standing firm on his original €80million (£67million) valuation of Milinkovic-Savic.
As such, Man Utd and Lazio could meet at €70million (£59million), but the Red Devils have nevertheless started work on the deal.
Milinkovic-Savic has played 287 games for his Serie A employers since joining in 2015, scoring 56 goals and assisting 49 others.
His current contract runs until the summer of 2024 and Lazio are reportedly aware that they would not be able to turn down a bigger bid.
Paris Saint-Germain have also been linked with a swoop for the 30-cap Serbia star.
