Leeds must topple Club Brugge’s club-record sale of Wesley to Aston Villa if they are to sign Noa Lang this summer, according to a report.

The Whites have enjoyed a solid first campaign back in the Premier League after a 16-year absence. They have won countless plaudits across the division and accumulated impressive accolades to boot. Indeed, they have taken points off every ‘Big Six’ team this season, with five draws and a win.

Such results have been won with the helping hand of last summer’s signings; Rodrigo scored in Saturday’s 3-1 victory over Tottenham, while Diego Llorente rescued a point against Liverpool.

But with a top-half finish in sight, the hunt is on to take Marcelo Bielsa’s side to the next stage of their journey.

Dutch winger Lang is one player who has had recent links with a move to Elland Road.

The 21-year-old, who is on loan in Belgium from Ajax, is coming to the end of his first season of regular football, flourishing at that. He has scored 14 goals and assisted eight others in the league, appearing in all but two of those matches.

Previous reports have claimed that Leeds are willing to pay €20million (£17million) to sign him.

According to GVA, though, Brugge want over €25million (£21.5million) for his signature. Indeed, that figure would see Brugge earn more than the fee Villa paid for Wesley in 2019.

However, the source stresses that Leeds have still sent no ‘concrete offer’.

What’s more, there are no ‘official negotiations’ taking place between the two clubs. Those talks could come after the Belgian league play-offs, in which Brugge are taking part.

Lang has agreed to sign a permanent deal with Brugge from Ajax in the summer, but he could still leave for another move across Europe before the start of next season.

Lang set for transfer talks

Head coach Philippe Clement said last week: “Not long ago I had a chat with Lang. Then I told him one thing: don’t think about your future until after the season.

“And he has confirmed to me that that is his plan too. Noa himself says that it is the first time in his career that he plays so many matches in one season, and that in short succession.

“That’s why he needs all his energy on the field now. First play champion with the team, then think: I think that’s a very mature attitude for such a young guy.”
